Florida Keys :: June 2013

Josh and I had the best time on our vacation to The Florida Keys. It was just one of those trips were everything went right...we had no travel issues, our hotels were amazing, the food and drinks were delightful, the weather was perfect and we truly had fun being together...just the two of us.

We flew from DFW to Miami...
We got a little shut eye in Miami, picked up our rental car the next morning and headed south on Route 1 (aka: The Overseas Hwy - the highway that connects all of The Keys).
Our first stop was Islamorada, where we stayed one night at the gorgeous Ocean House. This place is unreal...a real jewel. I would recommend it over and over again. Josh and I both wished we would have stayed here another night. It was so quaint and peaceful.
Josh enjoyed some paddle boarding...
While I took a 2 hour nap here. It was devine.
We had dinner a fun local joint called Lorelei Cabana Bar...
Celebrating 8 years of marriage in Islamorada!
Our view the next morning...
with room service...
And then we were off to Key West! One of our favorite experiences of the trip was driving through The Keys...it was beautiful!
2 hours later we made it to our resort in Key West, Casa Marina. Again, I highly recommend this place! The resort was beautiful, the rooms were very nice (and spacious, and super clean), the food was awesome and it really catered more towards adults ranter than families. While there were plenty of families there, they have 2 huge pools...one for families and one for adults, which was very nice (considering that we were looking for a break from children on this trip). :)
We spent quite a bit of time (and money) here...
After a round (or two) of pina coladas, we enjoyed some time on the beach before heading out for the evening to cruise through Key West...
We decided to return our convertible the next morning because you really don't need a car in Key West. Everyone rides bikes, scooters or walks. It was nice having the car that evening so we could see all of Key West in a short amount of time.
After crossing the big touristy spots off of our list, we enjoyed happy hour at Kelly's. The appetizers were delicious and the Key Lime Margarita was amazing!
We finished the night with dessert here! :) This place was hysterical and the desserts were to die for.
Coffee on the patio the next morning...
We spent the next 2 days on the beach and by the pool...
On our last night in Key West, we enjoyed an amazing dinner on Sunset Key at Latitude's...
The next day, we flew home from Key West and enjoyed lots of hugs and kisses from our girls when we walked in the door!! We were happy to be home...and very thankful for 5 days away to rest and recharge.

Colorado :: June 2012

Josh and I are having a great time in Colorado! This is our first vacation by ourselves since our honeymoon (almost 7 years ago). We always travel with family and friends, which is wonderful...but it's nice to have some quality alone time together! We arrived in Buena Vista on Friday around lunch time and our flight leaves tomorrow (Tuesday) around 4pm, so our time in one of our favorite spots on earth has almost come to an end...tear. It always goes by way too fast! I know we'll be ready to see our girl tomorrow evening though. We've certainly missed her, but she has been in great hands (and getting whatever she wants) with her Jewelz, GG and Pops! Thank you so much for watching Lucy so Josh and I could take this trip! I actually forgot to bring my camera...really shocking for me, but I've survived with my new found love of Instagram. Here are a few shots from the past few days...

We've enjoyed the view of Mt. Princeton (and some reading time) on the back porch...

and the lovely scenery in town...

We've made a stop (or 2 or 3) at K's Dairy Delite for lunch and evening ice cream treats...

We drove to the top of Cottonwood Pass to see the breathtaking views of the Continental Divide, followed by lunch in town at Mothers Bistro....

We hiked to Agnes Falls....it's was a little tough for me 7 months pregnant in the high altitude...but we made it and it was well worth the trip! Unfortunately, CO is experiencing drought right now so the falls were not rushing, but it was still pretty!

We took a day trip to Aspen! The drive from BV is incredible (and a little scary in a few spots)...

We went to Maroon Bells and hiked around the lake, enjoyed a delicious lunch on the patio at bb's Kitchen and spent some time reading/napping at the park in town. Really, a perfect day in Aspen!

On our way back to BV, we made a slight detour and drove to Leadville for dinner. Josh wanted to try High Mountain Pies, a popular pizza joint in town. I was a little skeptical, but oh my word...it was delicious! I took a risk with the house specialty "The Crocodile"....BBQ sauce, shrimp, bacon, jalapeno and cream cheese. Holy moly...so tasty! We'll definitely go back there next time we're in town!

This morning, Josh took off for a half day hike to Ptarmigan Lake and I'm in town at Bongo Billy's enjoying a latte, blueberry scone, my book and some blogging time. We're both equally happy....

Man, I love this place...
