Hi. My name is Mindy. And I'm an Instagram junkie. Here is our Memorial Day weekend recap...via Instagram!
Happy girl on Saturday morning...even though she woke up an hour early!
We tried out the fountains for the first time in Highland Village...followed by lunch at McAlister's Deli.
Lucy really wasn't a huge fan of the fountains....she slowly warmed up to them, but had more fun playing with bubbles. Wes was in town from Austin for the weekend, so we had dinner at The Rives on Saturday night.
After church on Sunday, we drove out to Michael's lake house at Lake Kiowa...
We had a really fun afternoon and evening!
Including a MAJOR blowout...
And Lucy's first boat ride...
The guys grilled and we enjoyed a yummy dinner outside on the patio....with this amazing view!
Happy Memorial Day!! This afternoon we went to Jimmy and Jill's to swim and to celebrate Jill's birthday!
Today is Lucy's last day of pre-school! She sure has come along way since her first day back in September. She wasn't even walking then....and now she's running everywhere and talking up a storm! School has been so good for her and we are definitely going to miss it this summer. I know September will be here before we know it though..and Lucy will get to show off her new baby sister on the first day!
As of this past Friday (May 11th) Lucy is officially PACI FREE!!! With the impending arrival of baby #2 in just 3 short months, we decided that we needed to wean Lucy from the paci now or wait until after she has fully adjusted to having a little sister (which could take awhile). When Lucy turned one, we only allowed her to have her pacis in her crib for bedtime and nap time. The transition went fairly well, but a couple of months ago when she learned how to say "paci", she started asking for it all of the time...and it was beginning to drive both Josh and I nuts! It was literally making me go so crazy, that I started giving in to her requests and letting her have her paci outside of her crib when she was fussy or whining (bad momma, I know). It takes Lucy a bit to adjust to change, so I knew going cold turkey would not work for her. So, a couple of weeks ago I slightly clipped the tips of all of her pacis (she usually had 2-3 in her crib at a time - one to suck on and the others to hold on to/play with). It really didn't bother her at first...I could tell she noticed a small difference, but she still sucked on it to fall asleep. And the biggest (and best) difference is that she stopped asking for it during the day after a few days...a small battle won! Every 2-3 days, I clipped a little bit more off the tip. Eventually, it was just a little nub and it was getting harder and harder for her to keep it in her mouth. This went on for about 2 weeks (maybe a couple of day over 2 weeks). This past Friday we started our normal bedtime routine of reading a few books and then rocking and singing Jesus Loves Me before putting her in her crib. That evening she did not ask for her paci when we were rocking, so I just went with it and didn't offer it to her. When I laid her in her crib, I bit the bullet and pulled the other pacis out before she noticed them. She did start asking for her paci and I told her that her pacis went bye bye and that pacis are for babies. Of course she quickly started crying. I patted her a few times on the back and told her to hang on to her lovie and left the room. Thinking it would be a long night, Josh and I prepared ourselves for the worse. But literally after a minute of crying she stopped and started talking to herself (like normal) and fell asleep shortly after! We were shocked...and so excited! She slept all night long and woke up around 7:30am the next morning (a little earlier than normal). She's doing great a bedtime (still shedding a few quick tears right when we lay her down) and pretty well at nap time. She goes down fine for her nap, but she's waking up earlier than normal (and sometimes during her nap). Hopefully we'll return to the 2.5-3 hour nap soon. All in all, it's been a pretty seamless and easy transition....easier than I thought it would be at least! I was scared to death to do it, but I'm so glad we did!
Some other fun tidbits about Lucy right now....she has started saying her name, which is so stinking cute I can hardly stand it! And she's started associating things that belong to her...like "Lucy's shoes" or "Lucy's milk." She can pretty much repeat any words we ask her to say and she is combining 2-4 words together. It really is amazing how fast her little vocabulary is increasing.
Lucy love animals and she's learned several new sounds over the past week....monkey, snake, cat, lion, bear, elephant and alligator. Here is a video of her and dad practicing a few days ago...
Yesterday we spent the afternoon and evening at Jimmy and Jill's around the pool...and enjoyed some yummy BBQ for Mother's Day! Lucy had so much fun...matter of fact, it's 8:30am and she's still snoozing this morning (with no paci in her crib...more on that later)!
Today Lucy's pre-school hosted a Mother's Day tea for all of the moms. We enjoyed a yummy breakfast and had a blast at chapel! It was such a fun morning!
She had a cute outfit on, so I snapped a few pics before we headed to school. Lucy actually said "cheese" when I took this picture....it cracked me up!
Her "No, mom...I'm not feeding Chloe" face!
How cute are these shoes that Jewelz gave her? She looks like such a big girl in them!
Happy girl...
Of course I forgot my camera at home, so I snapped a few pics with my iPhone while we were at school. Enjoying our yummy breakfast and admiring my adorable crafts Lucy made me. Melts my heart...
Singing at chapel...
This video is long...but super cute. I know the grandparents will enjoy it! :)
The weeks are FLYING by. This baby will be here before we know it! We've started a few little nesting projects around the house to get ready for little lady #2. I went to the doctor last week for my 24 week check-up. She is measuring right on track and her heartbeat was 143 bpm. Baby girl is a wiggle worm...especially at night. I'm feeling good, but starting to dread the brutal summer heat that is upon us. We've starting really talking up being a big sister with Lucy and practicing with her baby dolls...she loves her dolls! I know she doesn't have a clue what's coming, but we're hoping and praying that the adjustment won't be too tough for her. I'm sure she'll learn how to share her crown...eventually. :) I've started praying this verse over Lucy and her little sister...
Psalm 133:1 Behold, how good and pleasant is it when brothers (sisters) dwell in unity.
Truly, this is my biggest prayer and desire for these 2...that they will genuinely love and respect one another and as the verse says, "dwell in unity"...especially when they share a room! :)
I've been married to my high school sweetheart, Josh, for 9 glorious years. We have been blessed with two beautiful daughters, Lucy Kate (10.18.10) and June Marie (8.9.12). I graduated from Coppell High School in 2000 and from Texas A&M University in 2004. We moved back to Coppell in 2008 and attend church at The Door Church.
