Me of little faith....

For those of you who have followed my blog for a while now may remember my post last year about Josh's cherry blossom tree that we planted in our side yard last April. Here is the tree last April....

It looks like a nice little tree with lots of potential, right? Well, over the past year I think the tree has actually shrunk in size...and it looks like death most of the time. I definitely gave up on it, but Josh never did. He had great faith in his little tree.....AND, it paid off!! Surprisingly, the little guy bloomed last week!!!

I know, I know....it still looks puney....but it has some very powerful blooms! We feel like we're back in Washington DC enjoying the cherry blossoms again...well, kind-of. :)

Happy Friday everyone! Have a great weekend!

P.S....I feel so pathetic blogging about a tree. I need something more exciting in my life to blog about....like a baby or something. :)

So long plastic...

I must admit that the Rives family doesn't recycle....I usually leave the water running when I brush my teeth....and I'm a huge paper waster. Sorry. Please don't judge me.

But, last week my friend, Elyse, convinced me to purchase the reusable grocery bags that all of the grocery retailers carry. So, when I made my bi-monthly visit to our local Tom Thumb on Monday, I decided to bite the bullet and purchase their lovely reusable bags (they are $1/bag...great deal). I was amazed at how much stuff fit in one bag....they rode perfectly it my car (no annoying dump overs or anything).....and I felt pretty darn snazzy walking out of the grocery store with my new bags....like I had accomplished something greater than just buying groceries. I'm a huge fan. Thank you Tom Thumb for helping me grow a green thumb.

Now if I can only remember to take my reusable bags to the store next time I make a grocery run...that will be the real test.

Attitude...

The wedding industry is very emotional....we see the best of people and unfortunately, the worst of people. It's just comes with the territory. As wedding planners, we have to be calm, collective and positive at all times, even when things may be blowing up around us. Our clients look to us to solve problems and make things perfect. We've had a few "wedding hiccups" over the last few weeks (nothing new...it happens) and I've been so impressed with how our company and clients have handled the situations. I've been in the event industry for almost 4 years now....and I have quickly learned that It's all about attitude....it really is.

My mom shared this with me when I was going through a difficult time in high school and I've kept it in the back of my mind ever since...
Attitude
By Charles Swindoll

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes.

I'm embracing a positive attitude today....are you?

I ♥ Spring Weddings!

Today marks wedding 1 of 14 this Spring for DFW Events....we've got a busy 3 months ahead of us...and we are so thankful for that! Despite the current economy, people are still falling in love, getting married...and hiring wedding coordinators! Yay! Spring weddings are my favorite....I love Fall weddings too....but there is something about a Spring wedding that just makes me happy! Love is definitely in full bloom! I don't have much to blog about personally (I've been so busy at work lately that my personal life is on hold for a bit), so I thought I would post about my favorite bridal boutiques in Dallas. The first question our clients (or my friends) ask when they get engaged is....where do I find a dress? Wedding dress shopping is definitely the highlight of the planning process...or at least is was for me. It really sunk in that I was a bride-to-be the first day my mom and I went shopping for a gown....it was so much fun! It's hard to believe that was over 4 years ago...time flies when you're having fun! So, with that said, here are my favorite bridal boutiques in Dallas....

My Starbucks....

Today I walked into my local Starbucks (at MacArthur and Beltline) and I didn't even have to order....the nice barista recited it for me...."double tall vanilla latte extra hot." How crazy is that? In a strange way, I felt special and at home....like the sign should say "Mindy's Starbucks" or something. Thank you, Mr. Barista, for starting my day off on the right foot. I needed that this morning. Unfortunately, my gift cards are quickly dwindling from Christmas.....sad.
