Cruisin' through Corinth, Greece...

On his second missionary journey, Paul came to Corinth after leaving Athens. Paul teamed up for the first time with Aquila and Priscilla in Corinth (Acts. 18: 2-3) and he remained in the city for 18 months planting the church (v.11) and writing the book of Romans. The Jews opposed Paul and brought him before the judgment seat (bema) of Gallio who was proconsul of Achaia (vv. 1-18).

Paul wrote the letter of 1 Corinthians from Ephesus while on his third missionary journey. Paul wrote to correct a number of problems that had arisen in the Corinthian church after his departure. The letter was written in advance of a planned trip to Corinth by Paul (1 Cor. 16: 5-9). Paul wrote the letter of 2 Corinthians from Macedonia (possibly Philippi) when he received good news from Titus about the repentance of the church in Corinth.

Sailing into Corinth on the 2nd day of the Journeys of Paul trip...

Corinth did not have a port that our boat could "park" at, so we had to tender to shore in this little number...

The ruins of the odeon (a small theater for musical performances or dramatic recitals) near the the Temple of Apollo...

An inscription found near the theater mentions "Erastus" who was the commissioner of public works, who is mentioned in Acts 19:22 and Romans 16:23...

The Temple of Apollo is the oldest surviving temple in Greece...only 7 of the original 38 Doric columns stand today...

Another view of The Temple of Apollo from the agora (market area) of old Corinth...

The agora dominates the center of the ruins...the north and west sides were lined with shops back in the day...

In the center of the agora was the bema where Paul appeared before Gallio in Acts 18...

Just as Paul stood before the judgment seat of Gallio, we all will one day stand before the judgment seat of Christ...."For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one many receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad." 2 Corinthians 5:10

On the north side of the agora the Lechaeum Road leads away from Corinth to Lechaeum and the Ionian Sea...

Just off the Lechaeum Road, is the Fountain of Peirene. This was Corinth's most important reservoir and had the capacity of over 81,000 gallons...

The Corinth Canal, which separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece, connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea...

Big daddy's coming through...

A bit of a tight squeeze...

A view of the Temple of Poseidon from our ship as we were sailing away from Corinth...

The perfect way to end the day...

Jill and Jimmy...

Me and my honey...

Next stop....Patmos!
