Goodbye Maternity Leave

Tomorrow is the day I've been dreading since we brought sweet Lucy home from the hospital....my maternity leave is over and I'm heading back to work. Today, I've been soaking in every minute with Lucy and trying not to cry when I think about leaving her tomorrow morning. I keep reminding myself that it could be a lot worse.....and I do have A LOT to be thankful for. Sometimes I just need to write the blessings in my life out, so I can really reflect on them and not forget to count my blessings! So, here I go:

-We have a healthy and beautiful baby girl
-I'm healthy and happy and LOVE being a mom
-I was able to take a maternity leave
-I love my job
-I'm thankful that I get to go back to work part time. I still get 4 full days with Lucy each week!
-I have the best mother in law ever that I know will take excellent care of Lucy
-I have great friends and family who are encouraging me and supporting me through it all

It takes a village to raise a child. And I am certainly blessed by my village. But, I'm still sad and anxious about leaving Lucy tomorrow. Becoming a mom was the biggest (and greatest) life change ever. It took time to adjust. And I know the same will be true with going back to work. It will get easier over time. I've found great peace through the words of "Forever Reign" on Shane and Shane's new worship CD "Unending Worship". I've been listening to it over (and over) today!

You are good, You are good
When there's nothing good in me
You are love, You are love
On display for all to see

You are light, You are light
When the darkness closes in
You are hope, You are hope
You have covered all my sin

You are peace, You are peace
When my fear is crippling
You are true, You are true
Even in my wandering

You are joy, You are joy
You're the reason that I sing
You are life, You are life,
In You death has lost its sting

Oh, I’m running to Your arms,
I’m running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign

You are more, You are more
Than my words will ever say
You are Lord, You are Lord
All creation will proclaim

You are here, You are here
In Your presence I'm made whole
You are God, You are God
Of all else I'm letting go

Oh, I’m running to Your arms
I’m running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign

I have been praying for you thinking that this was the week you were to go back to work. I love your perspective in this post. You are an awesome mom and will do a perfect job balancing it all.

If you ever need anyone to take her for a day please call me. Jax may teach her to climb bookshelves and jump out of her crib but she would be safe and we would have so much fun with another girl in the house.

I'll continue praying for you to have peace and joy during this transition.

Hey Mindy,
I don't know you personally, but I have a few friends who follow your blog and so I check it from time to time.... I started with following your Zambia trip and then I had to follow you through your pregnancy. Now, I pretty much read about your precious family weekly! Congrats on a healthy baby girl, Miss Lucy Kate. I feel like I know you even though we haven't met and thought I'd say hi!
