To Lucy on your second birthday...

To my Lucy girl,

I honestly can't believe that I'm writing this on your second birthday.  It feels like just yesterday that daddy and I were on our last date sans kids the night before you were born.  I'm not going to lie...I cried almost the entire evening (poor daddy).  I was so nervous and anxious about meeting you...I remember telling daddy that I just wish you would stay inside a little longer.  I wasn't quite ready for this whole motherhood thing.  Little did I know how wonderful and completely life changing that next day would be.  The moment I first laid eyes on you, my heart doubled in sized.  I was overwhelmed with love....for you, sweet one.  And I was so humbled and thankful that the Lord entrusted me to be your mom.  You changed my life for the better.  What a joy the past two years have been.  I am so thankful for each and every minute that the Lord has graciously given me with you.  And I can only hope that we have many more years together.  I long to watch you grow up.  I hope that I get to be a part of every milestone, every success, every failure.  No matter what, I will always be proud of who you are and I will always be your biggest fan.  I want the very best for you...so remember that when you're in middle school and high school, ok?!  :)  Above all, I pray that you are captured by the love and grace of Jesus Christ at an early age and that your greatest achievement in life is knowing Him well.  Lucy Kate, I love you more than you will ever know.  Watching you transition with such ease and grace into the role of "big sister" over the past 10 weeks has made my heart so happy.  The way you love and care for June is remarkable.  We are extremely lucky to have you in our family. You will always be my firstborn...the one who made me a mother for the very first time.  What a gift that continues to humble and refine me.  So, to my happy, enthusiastic, passionate, determined, caring, friendly, helpful and funny little two year old...HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  I hope that you have the most amazing day today...and that you know how loved and celebrated you are!

Love,
Mommy
